From the beginning of time, people have argued as to how punitive we can be with children. The ages of responsibility we assign to children as a society are always being adjusted to reflect the norms at the time as well as what the courts have allowed.
What level of responsibility do you feel us as a society should "give" to children and at what age should those responsibilities occur? Explain why you selected that age.
Thank you for the opportunity to help you with your question!
From ages 7-11, according to Piaget's stages of development, children are able to see perspectives of others, consider other's situations and how that affects their point of view, and imagine things and event that happen outside of their own lives. Thus, they are ready for the responsibility of taking care of pets and smaller children (under supervision), as well as helping prepare food and contributing what they can to the household. Ultimate, full responsibility within the household can be possible by at least the age of 11 or 12, because this is when real abstract thought and systematic logic starts taking place in the mind and develops quite quickly. Children of this age should be responsible for their treatment of others and their contribution to the household, family, and their friends.
