ESSAY 2 2019 at 11:59PM 1. The conventions of theater have undergone many changes since the inception of theatrical performances in the Classical Age. Many of these changes are associated with the way that a performance is put on, and what the audience is supposed to experience. Given the broad evolution of theater, and the many forms that we examine (Classical, Elizabethan, Victorian, Modern, etc.), which do you feel is the most appropriate style to properly represent the intentions of theater as you seen them. Using an example of one play from one period, illustrate how the particular story, performance or convention illustrates the proper role of theater as you understand it to be. 2. Comment on the evolution of the protagonist within tragic theater. Relate the characteristics of the tragic hero from Classical theater, Elizabethan theater, and Modern theater. Explain what the differences indicate about the evolution of this type of character, and offer some comments upon what you find the contemporary tragic hero to be. Explain how they are different or similar to the forms of this protagonist from yesteryear. 3. Some films – such as Citizen Kane – did not fare well at the box office though they were critically acclaimed. Others were poorly reviewed yet showed soaring box office receipts. Identify a film you have seen recently that did well at the box office but not with critics, and that you consider cinema art. Or identify a film that you have seen recently that did not fare well at the box office but that you consider a work of art. Explain why in either case. 4. Women and minorities did not fare well in many earlier films. Has the situation improved at all to your mind? Is there more that needs to be done? If so, suggest some remedies. If not, explain how the progress has been undertaken. Present examples of films which support your observations on the subject and explain how these films have offered remedies to this idea, or suggest a perpetuation of similar stereotypes on screen.

Women and Minorities in the film industry
In my own opinion, women and minority groups are still underrepresented in the film
industry as there are still numerous reports of racial and gender bias still happening to date. It is

occurred regarding gender inequality and racial discrimination. This presence of this is clearly
seen as white males are still taking up the major roles in the film industry. Such roles include
directing, writing, producing and acting the lead role of the film. The fact that the white males
are taking up most of these roles is a clear indication of the presence of the stereotype which has
taken root in the film industry in regard to gender and race.
In a new film called Suffragette, which has its lead actors as Carey Mulligan and Meryl
Streep, the two actresses are seen giving interviews whereby they deplore how the women in the
film industry lack being selected for challenging roles in films. In addition to this there is a
