Putting a Stop to School and Gun Violence
According to reports, 94 school shootings were recorded in 2018 making it by far the
worst year for gun violence. Thousands of school children have lost their lives due to gun
violence and the issue seems to be worsening. Solutions such a licensing of firearms and other
control measures seem not to bear fruits as the violence keeps on increasing. The situation has
prompted researchers, security organizations, and school and education leaders to come together
in an effort to find ways in which they can put a stop to gun violence that threatens the lives of
many children in the country (Kellner p.53). The aim of this text is to research the background of
the problem and identify measures that can be put in place to make sure that issues of gun
violence in schools are dealt with.
Gun violence on school grounds takes many forms and fully presents the effects of gun
violence in the United States of America. Research has found that gun violence mainly occurs in
diverse schools where there are a high proportion of colored students. It is estimated that 3,000
children are exposed to gun violence each year. Furthermore, it has been noted that shooters
from within the school always have influence from the outside. It is a result due to the escalation
