Research- Social Media Marketing
Social media marketing is a common phenomenon today; many companies that have set
out to create an impression on customers have used social media in their marketing. The
marketing department of this company can benefit from this tool, and many top brands have used
this tool and realized great success. The purpose of this research is to describe social media
marketing and the benefits that it has on any marketing department in increasing sales and brand
awareness among customers. Social Media Marketing also is known as SMM and is the active
creation and sharing of content that belongs to a company on social media. The purpose of
sharing such content on the internet and social media is to create awareness of the brand and
create a lasting impression in customers and also improve customer engagement. SMM works in
three ways: it attracts the customers, engages the same customers and eventually converts the
individual into an active and loyal customer.
SMM can work for a company when there is effective communication. One of the critical
aspects that go into effective communication that are related to social media marketing is the
giving of feedback (Wilson, Guinan, Parise, & Weinberg, 2011). Many customers who are
engaged or read the content of a company on social media give their comments and expect
feedback from the same company. Therefore, as the company engages the customer through
social media and offering the correct and specific feedback, they create an impression on the
customers. According to Ashley and Tuten (2015), companies like Proctor and Gamble have
successfully used this tool to create a lasting impact on their customers as well as other social
media users. The company has been known to use stories of how mothers have been nursing and
nurturing athletes in marketing their products. The stories have been shared on social media to
increase communication between customers and the company on social media. Additionally,

Dell Company has been known to use and succeed in using SMM as a marketing tool for its
products. They have been focusing on continuity of communication and company-customer
relationship in meeting the social needs of their customers. Guinness, on the other hand, has been
using social media sites like Facebook to drive their customer and user attendance to their events.
SMM has many benefits, and in the communication between the customer and the
company, it has helped companies achieve their short and long term goals. I would make the
following recommendations to the company I work for regarding the use of SMM. They should
select the right social media site that has the highest number of users who might be interested in
the company’s product. The best site and company will be Facebook which has the broadest
coverage and many users with numerous features (Hallock, Roggeveen, & Crittenden, 2019).
They must select the right message that will create attraction to the customer, allow the customer
to linger longer for engagement and eventually covert the prospective customer to the real or
active customer (Martin & Todorov, 2010). They should also select the right content for their
social media that is creative and engaging to the customer.
