5x^2 +18x +9 =0

sum=18

product=45

Find two numbers, when you add them they give you 18, and when you multiply the same numbers they give you 45, i.e. 15 and 3

therefore

(5x^2 + 15x) + (3x + 9) = 0

Factoring out will give you

5x(x+3) + 3(x+3) = 0

(5x+3)(x+3)=0

hence 5x+3=0

                 5x=-3

                    x=-3/5

or x+3=0

         x=-3

so x=-3/5 or x=-3
