Group Proposal CM 513- Group Procedures The following assignment is a proposal for a group that you would like to implement. It can be in a clinic setting, school, higher ed, addictions center, etc. You will want to include each of the following sections. Each sections should be explained with detail and will use references and examples to support your writing. This is a graduate level class and graduate level writing is expected. One sentence answers are not sufficient explanations for each section. Background Information – - Presentation of Issue - Why is there a need for this group? - Why is group counseling a valid intervention for this particular population with this particular problem? /Rationale for using group counseling This is a good place to use statistics to support the need for interventions with the particular population you are wanting to develop a group for. Also, give a history of the presenting problem and how others (if others have tried to do interventions) have tried to do interventions for this problem in the past. For example, if I wanted to start a support group for students with high test anxiety, I would find evidence to support test anxiety as being a real disorder/disability and evidence that counseling interventions can help test anxiety. Proposed Group Program – - Overview of the Group - Main [Aim/Goal/Purpose] of the Group: For example, the aim of the group is to increase self-esteem by exploring identity, based around the five factors in the Indivisible Self model of wellness (i.e., creative self, coping self, physical self, social self, and essential self), with an emphasis on the coping self. There will be a focus on exploring members’ current strengths and skills and introducing new skills. The program will promote an internally motivated sense of self-esteem and introduce coping skills from an acceptance and commitment training (ACT) model. Mindfulness skills will also be introduced, and a strengths based view of self, promoted - Type of Group- Is this a psychoeducational group, support group, etc. - Number/Length and Frequency of the Group – Tell me why you selected the number/length frequency. - Group Size – How many people will you allow in the group? - Tell me why and how you selected the group size. - Open or Closed Group – Is this an open or closed group? – Tell me why and how you decided if the group was opened or closed. - Marketing Information – How are you going to recruit members? How are you going to advertise? Give an example of how you plan to advertise. - Group Membership and Screening – How will you decide group member inclusion or exclusion? How are you going to screen potential members? How did you decide about the screening process? This would be a good place to use data to support your reasoning. - Pre-Group Meeting – Your text book has good information to include about a Pre-Group Meeting Group Details - Group Format and Structure – Is there are particular theoretical approach you plan to use to lead the group? - Evaluation – How do you plan to gather information about the effectiveness of the group? Example, A Depression Inventory will be given at the beginning, middle and end of the group to chart the effectiveness of the group. - How will you end the group? Do you have a limited amount of time? How will you know it is time to end the group of there is not a pre-set limited amount of time?

Background Information
Gender violence has often been an issue of discussion in society, with scholars and
support groups investing in extensive efforts to address the problem. Consequently, there exists
much information relating to possible interventions that could help the members affected deal
with the issues resulting from their experiences in violent households. However, although much
attention in support groups is paid to the individuals who experience the said violence, there are
often cases in which minimal psychological attention is paid to the children, who end up
experiencing mental health issues later on in life. Therefore, there is need to provide necessary
care to children from households that have experienced some form of gender violence, since the
counselling intervention could help address poSssible psychological issues the children could
have experienced from living in a violent household.
