Description

Hi I have assignment ( Research paper proposal ):

I picked topic for my research paper and I wrote brainstorm paper for the research paper.

The topic that I chose is The advantage and disadvantage of social media

The assignment that is due tonight is:

In your research paper proposal, I would like you to finalize your topic and find one credible source relating to your topic. You will be submitting two paragraphs: an informal paper proposal and a source annotation. In your proposal paragraph, please include a working thesis statement. It can read “In my project I plan to argue…” or something along those lines. You can also use a working thesis similar to what I’ve outlined above. You should then discuss the main questions/aspects of this issue you are looking to investigate further in the paper in your proposal paragraph. I would like you to begin the source annotation with an MLA citation for the source you are summarizing (please be sure to consult Purdue Owl’s MLA guide). Then, summarize the source itself and identify at least 3 important quotations from the source. Then, write 4-5 sentences about which stakeholder perspective this source may represent and how you could use the source in your paper. This exploratory will be a bit longer; please write a minimum of 400 words.

Again I chose my topic

I will upload some files to help you.

For this brainstorming assignment, I ask that you post it to your journal page and title it “Brainstorm #3.” In roughly 150-200 words, start walking me through some of your initial thoughts for the research paper. What do you think you want to research? This can include questions, general comments related to the project, and previous experiences you’ve had writing research papers. Social Media Social media, just like other forms of popular culture that have emerged in modern times, has elicited mixed reactions as people evaluate its effects to establish whether social networking is a blessing or a curse in the contemporary society. With the benefits associated with social media, there are also some disadvantages. One of the benefits is that social media is more of a blessing than a curse because it allows more people to participate in the political process of a given nation, thereby promoting citizen-driven politics. Social media creates platforms in which ordinary people can debate and get sensitized on important political issues affecting the nation. One of the disadvantages is that social media has replaced traditional forms of communication, and introduced a platform that escalation certain vices. The argument, in this case, is that social networks provide people with deviant behaviors the opportunity to advance their deviance without the risk of disclosure. This is because social networks allow people to remain anonymous or register with fake identities without the knowledge of their unsuspecting victims. One more disadvantage is that social media affect the academic performance of students. This is due to their highly addictive nature that influences students to spend most of their time socializing rather than concentrating on academic work. This paper is aimed at discussing both the advantages and disadvantages of social media. Research Paper Now, we’ll talk about the research paper. This is your last major project, and it is due Friday, April 12th by 11:59 p.m. The purpose of this assignment is to practice what you’ve learned about telling stories, collecting information, and conducting analysis in order to explain not just two but multiple sides to a complex issue. I’m sure many of you have written research papers before. This paper is a bit different in that it not only asks you to take a position on a topic, but it also asks you to fairly represent other, differing perspectives on the same topic. These perspectives come from others who have a stake in the topic (hence the name stakeholder research paper). All that means is that it is a perspective from someone who cares or is somehow involved with/in that topic. The first big step for this project is selecting a topic. I am asking you to think about this for your brainstorm assignment tonight. Try to think about things that interest you (your major, etc.). You might want to explore issues in a certain field. You will want to pick something that you don’t know a lot about, as that will make it easier for you to be open to other perspectives and take a position that is not so definite in the paper. There are several topics that I will not allow you to do for this paper, simply because they are overdone and much too big to cover in 5-6 pages. That list includes: ❏ Abortion ❏ Gun control ❏ Death penalty ❏ Animal rights ❏ Legalization of marijuana ❏ Euthanasia ❏ Student athletes getting paid ❏ Lowering the drinking age Please be sure to read over the assignment sheet, as that has important info as well. Journal 7- Brainstorm #3 For this brainstorming assignment, I ask that you post it to your journal page and title it “Brainstorm #3.” In roughly 150-200 words, start walking me through some of your initial thoughts for the research paper. What do you think you want to research? This can include questions, general comments related to the project, and previous experiences you’ve had writing research papers. Coming up Next week, we will talk more about how and where to find sources. Tuesday’s lesson will focus more on developing your argument/position. Please let me know if you have any questions! Homework 1. Rhetorical analysis project due this Friday, March 22nd by 11:59 p.m. 2. Peer Review Emails due by Sunday, March 24th by 11:59 p.m. 3. Journal 7 due by Sunday, March 24th by 11:59 p.m. Lesson 5.1 Tuesday, March 26th, 2019 Goals 1. 2. Finalize your topic Begin finding sources Topic Hopefully, most of you have some solid ideas as to what you wanted to research for this project. Going through the databases we will review today should help you finalize your topic. If you still have questions about your topic, please e-mail me. You might also spend some time googling questions/ideas and checking out Wikipedia to get things moving. Sources Our library has a great resource page that should help you tremendously with this project. Here is the link: http://libguides.wvu.edu/english101 I want you to spend some time exploring this page. The home page has contact info for the library. I strongly suggest using the instant chat feature if you need helping finding sources. A librarian can work with you via your computer to adjust your search terms and help you find the sources you need. This might be a quicker and more effective method than emailing me with similar questions. If you click on the left link that says “Get Articles and More!” you will see a few different databases. The Points of View Reference Center will be helpful for those of you who have vague ideas but need a bit more direction. The homepage has many different issues that you can explore. When you click on one, you will see a brief overview of the issue, the different “sides,” and a bibliography with sources you can explore. The next two databases will be helpful if you are working on a project that requires a more global/political perspective. The database that will be most helpful is EBSCOhost, and you can find a search bar down at the bottom of the page. This one can be a bit tricky, as you sometimes have to plug in a few different search terms to yield the results you want. You will see on the lefthand side you have the option of adjusting the dates (so you can get more recent sources) and you also have the option of clicking “Full Text” so you only get full articles instead of articles and abstracts (essentially a short intro to an article, not the full thing). Don’t forget that you are required to have at least 4 scholarly sources in your paper. I will keep mentioning sources throughout this week. You can continue to look for sources throughout the week; I am more concerned that you guys nail your topics down for tomorrow’s proposal. I will also ask that you summarize one source, so do try to find one (I will post those specific directions so you can hold off on that assignment until you read those over). Journal #8 In your eighth journal entry, I would like you to reflect on the rhetorical analysis. In a minimum of 300 words, talk about your process and address some of the following questions: What went well? What didn’t? What was difficult about this project? What did you really enjoy? What do you think you might change for the final portfolio? What questions do you have for me? Any concerns would you like very specific feedback on? Coming up Thursday we will talk more about your argument/position. Next week, we will talk more about incorporating stakeholder perspectives into your paper. Your rhetorical analysis feedback will be posted ASAP. Please let me know if you have any questions! Homework 1. 2. Journal #8 (rhetorical analysis reflection) recommended to be completed by tonight at 11:59 p.m. (Formally due Sunday) Exploratory # 11: Research Paper proposal due Thursday, March 28th (REQUIRED DEADLINE) by 11:59 p.m. Lesson 5.2 Thursday, March 28th, 2019 Goals 1. 2. Create a working thesis Begin mapping out sources/body points Thesis Statement You may be researching a topic that you don’t have a strong opinion about, and that’s OK. You might need to research a bit before coming to a conclusion about where you stand, and that’s OK too. Just know that you can take a position that sides more with one side, or take a position that combines multiple views. Since your paper will respectfully consider both sides of an issue before coming to an ultimate conclusion, it’s important to reflect both sides in your thesis statement. Fill in the blanks below with the other side’s position on your issue, your own position, and three reasons that support your position. Ex: While others believe , I believe , and Before you fill in your points, try to fill in these points below:  because . 3 groups of people (stakeholders) who stand to benefit from taking your position on the issue (we will spend more time working on this tomorrow):  3 different types of benefits that can come from taking your position (think financial, educational, emotional, physical/health-related, etc):  3 good reasons you’re right: Now, fill in your thesis, using one set (or a workable combination) of the points you generated above. Your thesis: While others believe ________________________, I believe____________________________________ because (1) _____________________________________, (2)__________________________________, and (3)______________________________________. Supporting Points If you’re having trouble getting started with the thesis statement, you might want to spend more time searching for sources and gathering ideas as to the main points you want to use in the paper. After you begin your search, you will want to take notes on each source you plan on using. Try to capture the main idea, what facts/evidence you want to use in your own paper, as well as the stakeholder perspective it represents (it may be an objective piece and that’s OK too). You will then want to figure out 3-4 main points that supports your position after you have found your sources. You will then want to organize the source material by point, rather than source. Your paper should have body paragraphs grouped by idea, not by one source, then another source. Please take a look at the source map I uploaded. This will help you begin to group your source material/ideas together. Exploratory #11: Project Proposal In your research paper proposal, I would like you to finalize your topic and find one credible source relating to your topic. Coming up Next week, we will talk more about finding and incorporating different stakeholder perspectives. Your R&R will ask you to read some example research papers which should be helpful. Thursday’s lesson will discuss MLA citations and plagiarism, and then we begin the final portfolio! Please let me know if you have any questions! Homework 1. Exploratory #11: Project Proposal (Due tonight, Thursday, March 28th at 11:59 PM- REQUIRED DEADLINE)

Thesis statement
While others believe that social media has brought about adverse impacts to the society including
the spread of social vices and its addictiveness. However, i am of a different opinion since social
media comes with greater benefits compared to the adverse effects. On the one hand, social
media provides the citizenry of a nation with a platform where they can air their views and push
for changes in government operations. This is unlike before when people were supposed gather
and demonstrate in the streets which in most cases ended up in casualties. Social media also
enhances the business environment by creating a platform where business people could easily
reach out to millions of people with the click of a...
