In 750 BCE, Greece developed city-states which were also known as polis because of its
Geography in around. Its terrain and the numerous isolated valleys called for local power centers
rather than an overall powerful king. City states, like those found in Greece in 15 th c. BCE is
indeed ultimately ungovernable. The different city-states had different types of people, and their
ways of life contrasted deeply. Two of such city-states whose ways of life were very different
