Running head: DISCIPLINE POLICY FOR A RESTAURANT
Discipline policy for a restaurant
DISCIPLINE POLICY FOR A RESTAURANT 2
According to Foucault (2018), discipline in the workplace refers to how the supervisory
personnel correct behavioral deficiencies in ensuring adherence to established company rules to
correct behavior. Punishment is not designed to embarrass employees (Vardaman, Gondo, &
Allen, 2014, p. 111). It is established to provide guidelines for employee performance and
behavior and is an essential component of the overall management system. Discipline helps
identify misalignment among employees' workplace actions and the organization's philosophy
and mission. Through the implementation of discipline policies, the performance of employees
gets improved, and employment actions are justified (Mangkunegara, &Waris, 2015, p. 1245).
Restaurant’s philosophy on discipline
Employee discipline is essential for the restaurant’s survival and growth (Foucault,2018).
Every employee should have the highest levels of performance, accountability, punctuality,
honesty, courtesy, integrity and teamwork which will contribute to the restaurant’s success
through the achievement of its goals, customer satisfaction, service excellence and realization of
profits. Self-discipline is the most valued form of discipline in the restaurant hence the
preference for employees who discipline themselves without the compulsion of laws or fear of
punishment. It is not enough that an employee should avoid doing wrong but should have the
personal commitment and consciously do the right things in the right way, at the right time and
for the proper purpose. Employees should do the right actions because they want to rather than
because they are afraid of the consequences. Disciplinary action may get imposed for
wrongdoing, but the overall intent is the prevention of infraction rather than penalty
