(1) The function has a maximum value.

to find the maximum and minimum values of f(x), we find its derivatives.

f'(x)= -4x-4=0

-4x=4, dividing both sides by -4


f(-1)= -2(-1)^2 - 4(-1)-1= 1 which is a maximum value. 

(2) the maximum value occur at (-1, 1)

(3) and the function's maximum value is f(x)= -2x^2 - 4x - 1 at x=-1
