note:the working is to help you understand why a maximum

when the slope is zero at x and second derivative at x is less than zero it becomes a maximum

g(x)=-x^2 - 2x +1

find the first derivative of the function



divide by -2 on both sides to get the value of x


find the second derivative of the function

kindly update section c on the maximum or minimum value.To get the maximum or minimum value of the function,you substitute the value of x in the original function ie

-2^2 -2*2 + 1=4-4+1


therefore the maximum value =1
