My friends and I are unsure if the answer is 3.5 m/s west or 3.5 m/s east

Hi there! Thank you for the opportunity to help you with your question!

The average acceleration is 3.5 m/s^2 towards the east (because the car is decelerating, means the acceleration is opposite to the direction of motion.) Note that the unit is meter per second squared!

Please let me know if you need any clarification. Always glad to help!
