 variance=s2=1/nāˆ’1āˆ‘i=1n(xiāˆ’m)2

23+12+6+8+9/5= 11.6 ( mean) xi

To calculate the Variance, take each difference, square it, and then average the result but since it sample variance , we average using, n-1

(-11..4)^2 + (-0.4) + (5.6)^2 + (3.6)^2 +(2.6)^2 = 181.2

181.2/4 = 45.3 is the variance

standard deviation = sqrt 45.3 = 6.73
