Thank you for the opportunity to help you with your question!

1. It's good for students to be familiar with local geography so they can navigate the way home.

2. It's useful to know local geography so you can drive short distances without  the use of  smart phone navigation, someday your battery might run out.

3. The location of earthquake faults would be valuable knowledge when buying a house.

4. World events can be more meaningful if you know the local geography. For example if that country is known for having active volcanoes or known to have earthquake  faults.

5. In buying a home you would want to avoid a location with a history of flooding , or too close to a river , even if the current river is dry.

6. Some areas are prone to dense fog, where it would be good to know the  local geography.

7. Very local geography would help you know how to walk around your neighborhood and avoid areas where there are aggressive dogs or other hazards.

Please let me know if you need any clarification. I'm always happy to answer your questions.
