Description

I will upload my document and please fix it.

this my professor' notes and I want you to improve it:

for abstract: Write clear abstract that identifies a fieldwork site, explains why it is important, and uses at least one peer-reviewed source. (Comments previously made on the abstract were not completely addressed. What is the research question?)

Field Report: Write in-depth field report based on participant observation, fully addressing the five points above.(Elaborate more on social interactions that are significant.)

Notes: Transcript of participant observation notes and write it after the sources and appendix (make notes for the paper like key answers and write it down).

1 CHURCH OBSERVATION Mazin Al-Senaidi Professor E.J. Ford Cultural Anthropology 12 February 2019 Introduction Participant observation is a method of data collection applied mostly in qualitative analysis. This is one of the methods that are widely used in data collection in many fields of research. This method allows the researcher to have a close interaction with the respondents and they may get involved in the culture of the people for an extended period. In this approach for a researcher to obtain detailed data he/she needs to learn the culture of the respondents to get a clear understanding of the people's culture. Through research, we will be able to understand the diversity in cultures around the world and help appreciate different cultures. This paper will look at participant observation undertaken in the church. Discussion I undertook a study in a nearby church in the area located in Tampa downtown called Sacred Heart Catholic Church and its address is 509 N Florida Ave, Tampa, FL 33602. This church is one of the most developed churches in town, and it has many people from different socio-economic status as well as from diverse races. I stayed in the church for more than a sixhour undertaking my research. I chose this area because I felt it is the best place to gather information concerning my study given that it has many people from diverse ethnic groups and, they are from different social status. Given that the church accommodates many people it was evident that I will get respondents who are willing to answer my questions and give detailed CHURCH OBSERVATION 2 information. I also had a belief that church members can give truthful information which is reliable. My observation of the patterns in this church is that all activities were arranged in a particular manner. Their programs were well driven, and I could see all worshipers following the order that has been established. The services in the church were divided into different sections to ensure that all members are reached out in the ministry. Children had their own time and place for teaching and prayer. I also observed that after service on Sunday there is time allocated for members to come together and share meals in the church. The meals are the daily contributions that members gave every day as they attended evening prayers regularly. During my observation, I had expected that after the sermon people left for their homes but that was different here as they had a routine of all people coming together and sharing a meal. Visitors in this church were highly welcomed and appreciated for joining the rest of the members in the sermon. The patterns I identified in the church include facility focus, pastoral care, and the church focused much on change rather than looking at spreading the gospel. My first impression about the cultural values was a fascinating impression as all the practices in this church are different from other places (Repka, 2018). People are more united and concerned about the well-being of one another in society. People display different cultural practices which include fun culture where all people are happy in the church and enjoy being with one another. There exists a winning culture where all people are free and welcomed to the church. Those seen to be sinners are also given hospitality in the church. The church has a mission culture where Christians try to win many people as they can to the church. My reflection on the diversity of people in the church is that there are individuals of all ages young and old, mixed gender in the church and there is a representation of people from all CHURCH OBSERVATION 3 over the world. People in the church spoke different languages which show that they are a united people from all over (Spohnholz, 2018). The church reflected a kingdom where all people are welcomed in and given hospitality. The diversity in this church is sacrificial since people have to sacrifice a lot to bring diversity in the church. Bringing together people from different races, cultures, and socioeconomic backgrounds need a lot of sacrifices. Diversity in this church as well is intentional since it is not something that happens, but people work and invest in it to create variety in the church (Spradley, 2016). It is also beneficial since having people from different backgrounds helps in the spread and understanding of the gospel in a different perspective. Having diverse cultures in this church helps it flourish and embrace the spirit of togetherness and unity. The information that I am missing is why the church has so many people who have come from different diverse cultures to worship in that particular place. Conclusion In concluding my participant observation, I find this method convenient for research since the researcher has a chance to interact with respondents. The researcher may as well learn some other practices and cultural beliefs in the area of study. As Christians, we need to appreciate the diversity in the cultures and beliefs in which people come from. The church is an essential place for the interaction of people from different parts of the world, and it creates unity among individuals. CHURCH OBSERVATION 4 References Hinze, B. E. (2018). Abstract
According to Kawulich (2005), participant observation is s form of qualitative data
collection often used in an array of research disciplines. It allows the observer the opportunity to

learn of the study group’s activities by presenting the chance to observe the said activities in their
natural setting as well as participate with the group in the activities. While the interaction time
may be extended (long term interaction) or short spells over segmented time frames, it allows indepth foundations for sampling and interview guides. However, this form of data collection
requires blending in with the target community in order for them to maintain normalcy, as well
as clarity of mind to remove one’s self from the community and analyse the data to provide
reputable a understanding of their behaviour. This research aimed to apply this form of data
collection in the church setting in order to develop an understanding of diversity in cultures,
norms and practices of the church members. The study was undertaken in a nearby...
