Find an equation of the line that passes through the point (7, 6) and has the slope m = -5 / 2.

Oct 12th, 2015

Note the equation for a line in slope-intercept form:

y=mx +b

where b is the y-intercept of the graph

using the test point (7,6) (x=7, y=6, and substituting

7=(-5/2)(6)+b

7=(-30/2) + b

7=-15+b

22=b

The x intercept equals 22, making the final equation in slope intercept form,:

Answer: y=(-5/2)x+22
