Find an equation of the line that passes through the points (1, 4) and ( -7, -4)
Oct 12th, 2015

Thank you for the opportunity to help you with your question!

First find the gradient =dy/dx

=4 -(-4)/1 -(-7)

8/8 = 1

gradient = 1

To find the equation,  take (x,y) as one coordinate and the second coordinate can be either of the two given

So the coordinates are (x,y) , (1 ,4)

Y-4/x-1=1

Cross multiplication

Y-4=1 (x-1)

y-4=x-1

the equation must be in the form of y=x +c

Y= x+3
