We are surrounded by music,so much so,that we often don't pay attention to what to hear. The main challenge of this assignment is the attempt to be an active listener, as opposed to a passive one, as we make connections between the music and our emotions, moods, and self.
Instructions:
The students will each make their own choice of music or music performances to write about. Additionally, each student will bring in a recording a CD, or email a link of their chosen music piece to the instructions. Feel free to go ro a music venue for this assignment if you are able to arrange it.

Music has a great impact on our emotions. For instance, when a person is in a happy
mood may tend to listen to the upbeat kind of music, slow-moving songs when the sad and dark
type of music when one is angry. All this genre of song expresses how we feel or try to sooth
when in a bad mood. Music is also associated with boosting of confidence and memory.
According to a study carried out by Petr at the University of California, there is a section of our
brains that connect music and memory and is triggered upon listening to emotional songs
(Goldstein, 2016). Also according to a study done in “Journal of Positive Psychology,” people
experiencing bad mood recover in two weeks upon listening to upbeat music (Goldstein, 2016).
This paper focuses on how Katy Perry song “Roar” connects with our mood, self and emotions
and the inspiration from the music.
History of the Music, Genre, and Musician
The Roar was released as the first single song in her fourth album the Prism in August
2013. The song became number one in the Billboard Hot Singles that year. It ...
