After reading Ch. 9 in Griffith and Goodwin (2013), in no less than three pages, please address the following case questions from “Case: Engaging in Supportive Confrontation” (pp.155-156): “Using the supportive confrontation model, analyze Joe’s situation involving his relationship with Kim and discuss the following:
(1) What are the problems, and who owns them based on the window on behavior?
(2) What research and reflection should Joe do to test his assumptions and perceptions? What are the facts? Does Joe have legitimate reasons to feel as he does? What more should he seek to understand about Kim before attempting to address the situation?
(3) Should Joe seek to change his attitude, change his environment, or confront Kim regarding Kim’s behavior? Defend your choice.”

Case: Engaging in Supportive Confrontation
As per the window on behavior, Joe owns the problem because he is apparently bothered
by the actions depicted by Kim Kahn. Kim has a bad attitude, and his behaviors are causing
collision and conflict in the workplace. Kim Kahn's actions are creating conflicts between Kim
and Joe and among other employees as well. First of all, Joe has noticed that Kim Kahn is
somewhat dismissive, often gruff and tries to make others feel stupid and think less of
themselves. There are instances where Joe feels like Kim is trying to make him feel stupid in
front of his employees.
According to Goodwin and Griffith (2013), Kim is an expert in tools and hardware
business, but whenever Joe tries to ‘squeeze’ information out of Kim in regards to the business,
Kim gets irritable and dismissive. Joe finds Kim behavior and actions to be wanting and uncouth
for someone holding such a position like the assistant manager of tools and hardware. During
management meetings, Joe feels that Kim Kahn makes subtle comments targeted at Joe. Kim
sarcastically makes comments which demean Joe and his capacity as a leader. Joe is a people
person, yet Kim uses this to make Joe feel like he is unworthy and in spite of Joe’s education,
Kim feels that Joe does not work as hard as he is supposed to.
