The theme I have chosen is the relationship between the creator (Frankenstein) and the creation (the monster). Specifically, the obligations and duties that Frankenstein has towards the monster he created , and the similar obligations and duties that the monster has towards Frankenstein. I will discuss the unfair treatment of Frankenstein towards his creation, the lack of vision and disregard of the consequences of his action. When the monster asks him to create a mate ( a very legitimate demand), he first agrees then breaks his promise. I will show that the real monster is Frankenstein himself, who mistreats the monster simply on account of his ugliness and his bloated ego. The monster himself is not entirely guiltless – his lack of compassion and the murders he commits cannot be justified since these people were innocent victims who had not done him any harm. Then I will briefly discuss the relationship that should exist between creator and created.
