Types/Methods of Innovation
Innovation refers to the process of making changes to an establishment by introducing
new radical changes to the process or service. In education, innovation strategies have been used
over the years to change the way education is designed and delivered to learners. The purpose of
innovations in education is to ensure high-quality learning outcomes across the system (Saleh,
2017). Innovation that were used in education include a mixture of technological and teaching
innovations.
Across the world, technological innovations have been integrated at all levels to help
improve on the delivery of education and ensure quality learning outcomes of the learners
(Saleh, 2017). A good example of such innovations is online courses. These have helped students
to access education from different parts of the world. Similarly, teaching aids through
educational software have helped improve learning comprehension among students leading to
positive learning outcomes.
On the other hand, new and exciting teaching strategies are also being used as
educational innovations to change the delivery of quality education to learners in classrooms.
Some of the teaching innovations involve the use of the STEAM education teaching strategy that
involves the push for teaching science, technology, engineering, and math-driven courses to meet
the market demand (Saleh, 2017). Other innovations teaching strategies include the use of
personalized learning to accommodate the diversity of student learning in the classroom. Also,
the whole child approach strategy is an innovation in education that helps in the nurturing

children in every way including academic, physically, emotionally, and socially. The innovations
encourage teachers to understand and accommodate every students’ unique circumstances in
class.
The Contribution of Innovation Methods and Concepts to Education in Developing
Countries
Lack of access to education is one of the challenges leading to achieving economic
growth and freedom in developing countries. Some of the educational challenges in developing
counties include lack of infrastructure, remote location, and lack of trained staff among other
challenges. Innovations concepts and methods contribute to education in developing countries
through improving access to universal education and changing the typical definition of the
classroom.
Improving access to universal education. Technological innovations in educations are
essential in improving education in developing countries. For instance, through the use of elearning programs through the internet, learners in developing countries can access universal
education. E-learning courses use interactive video, WebCT, and onsite discussion groups as
well as online libraries to ensure education is more accessible to a broader audience universally
(Lewin, 2016). Governments in developing countries can ensure improved access to education
through the facilitation of the expansion of digital learning and the introduction of regulations
supporting technological innovations in learning.
Changing the definition of the “classroom.” Based on the teaching innovation concepts
of whole child approach and personalized learning concepts developing countries can adopt the
needs of the leaner to widen access of education in developing countries. The pathways to adopt

learning should include informal approaches to education, as well as formal and non-formal
educational approaches (Holmes, 2018). To ensure improved access to education developing
countries should deliver education beyond classrooms to include ...
