Bitmap images are also known as raster images. They are made up of pixels in a grid while vector images are defined by mathematical equations rather than pixels. Thus vector images render the highest quality

  • BMP
    • GIF
    • JPEG, JPG

    • PCX
    • TIFF

Examples of vector

• AI
• CDR (CorelDRAW)
• CMX (Corel Exchange)
• SVG - scalable vector graphics
• CGM Computer Graphics Metafile


  • Disadvantage of bitmap image is that they are restricted to a rectangle (grid) and are not scalable
  • Disadvantage  of vector images is that they are cartoon like
