Genocide in Argentina
What Happened
The Argentine genocide, often known as the “Dirty War” was a culmination of a
targeted campaign held by the Argentine government in a bid to wipe out the suspected
and supposed subversives and dissidents. In just seven years, close to 30, 000
Argentines lost their lives while some were forcibly taken out. The number of sufferings
meted on the citizenry was not only gross but also highly inhuman. Masses were
assassinated through torture and mass shootings. In some cases, people were forcibly
subjected to “death flights” and eventually thrown from planes into seas and oceans
where they inhumanely drowned (Delrio et al., 2010).
Where and why it happened
Notably, Argentina is located in the South American Continent. The country is
situated on the furthest end of the Southeastern section. It borders Bolivia, Paraguay,
Chile, Uruguay, and South Atlantic Ocean. Remarkably, Argentina boasts of a large
geographical size that is four times that of Texas and the second largest overall in
South America (Delrio, et al 2010).
When it started and ended

chronology of the event that transpired in Argentina in the 7-year military dictatorship
regime that took place between 1976 and 1983. Since then, there have been attempts
to make sense from the events of the time. These efforts have been made by the
political class, the media, and academics who have tried their best to shed light into the
events of the time (Delrio, et al 2010).

Of the many works in which the genocide perpetrators tried to justify the dirty war
was when the government staged a military operation that was aimed at doing a cleanup of the dissenting voices that were vehemently opposed to the policies of the
government that was put in place (Lindert, & Marsoobian, 2018). As is usually the case,
the genocidal practices of social origin have underpinned the power plays in the
contemporary world. This task establishes that genocide in Argentina was taken to
unprecedented levels by either of the opposing side painting one another in a bad light.
The ethnic politics of the country led...
