Topic: Arguments Why Guns Should be Tightly Regulated
Thesis Statement: The Second Amendment of the U.S constitution gives the private citizens the
right to own firearms for their own protection. Essentially, that provision in the constitution was
to allow for people to be able to overthrow any government in case it became tyrannical. However,
there have been cases of mass shootings of innocent people which have been largely blamed on
the large number of firearms on the hands of the civilian citizens. In many instances, guns are sold
to individuals without proper background criminal check. The ease of access to guns by potential
criminals increases the chances of violent mass shootings in the U.S which leads to the deaths of
many innocent citizens (McMahan, 2012). As a result of the increasing number of criminal
activities committed by civilian firearm holders, there is need to ensure that there are stricter gun
control laws so that the chances of guns falling on the wrong hands can be reduced thus a reduction
in gun-related tragedies.
