1 Term Paper Guidelines: Write a 6 to 8 pages about Jean Michel Basquiat. Make sure that the paper talks about his Movement of Neo-expressionism, Primitivism, Contemporary art. You can think of this process of reflection on the experience and the work of art as an interrogation—asking yourself questions, and writing the answers. You are the owner of your experience, and as owner, you are the expert witness, so you can always return there for your authority in your statements. But you can “cross-examine” to get to a more robust statement, a more rigorously articulated truth. Be “subjective.” Include your feelings, your thoughts, your associations with the object, your memories—whatever comes up in your consciousness. When you are writing about that confrontation. Be as “free” in your writing as is possible, given the circumstances—that at the end of the process you want to have a term paper. Regarding the bibliography: You can use a bibliographic formatting website, like easybib.com, to cut down on the drudgery of getting it right, but you should proofread the results, which can be error-ridden. If you opt to do research, look for sources that include a comprehensive source—one that very thoroughly examines the work, artist, or other topic—and one that contextualizes the subject of inquiry within a larger framework. However, remember: research is not as important as vivid and authentic writing in this paper. It is based on and is essentially about your opinions and feelings and ideas, articulated fully and effectively

JEAN-MICHEL BASQUIAT AND ARTWORK

Introduction
The art and music society has gone under drastic development but some old
techniques used by the ancient artist are still in practice, and most of their work is still in
modern displays. Jean-Michel, born on 22nd December 1960, was an American artist of
Puerto Rican and Haitian descent. He first achieved eminence as part of SAMO, an off-therecord graffiti duo who scripted perplexing epigrams in the cultural ferments of Manhattan in
the Lower East Side in the late 1970s, where street art, punk and hip hop cultures coalesced.
The article herein analyzes Jean-Michel Basquiat’s life and how his achievement in the
artwork influenced the contemporary world.
Overview of Basquiat’s art development
By the year 1980, Jean-Michel's neo-expressionist paintings were unveiled in the
museums and galleries internationally. The American Art Museum, Whitney held a
retroactive Basquiat's art in 1992 even after his death on 12 August 1988. Most of Jean
Michel's art focused on the suggestive dichotomies like inner versus outer experience,
integration versus segregation and wealth versus poverty.
Basquiat appropriated painting, drawing, and poetry and at the same time married
historical information blended with contemporary critique, figuration, abstraction, image, and
text. He used social commentary, a tool in his paintings as a spur to deepen the facts about
people as well as condemnations on racism systems and power structures. Basquiat's poetics
were intensely political and straight in their disparagement of support for struggle class and
colonialism. At the age of 27, Basquiat was found dead in his art studio due to a heroin
overdose. Though he died at an early age, his art inspired many hip hop music society like
Jay-z among others (Steptoe, 2016).
