3x + 4y = 4      (ii)

We modify the first equation by multiplying through with 3 to get 3x - 6y =24

Then we add the modified equation (i) to equation (ii) to eliminate x terms

3x - 6y =24

3x + 4y = 4

0- 10y=20

y=-2

Replace y in equation (i)

x-(-2)2 = 8

x+ 4=8

x=8-4=4
