The following table provides a probability distribution for the random variable y.

Y  F(y)

2  0.20

4  0.20

7  0.40

9  0.20

a)compute E(y)(to 1 decimal

b)compute Var(y) and population standard deviation

Thank you for the opportunity to help you with your question!

a- E(Y)=sum(Yi*F(y)i)=2*0,2+4*0,2+7*0,4+9*0,2=5.8

b-var(Y)=0,2*(2-5,8)^2+0,2*(4-5,8)^2+0,4*(7-5,8)^2+0,2*(9-5,8)^2=6.2 (actually 6.16)

STANDARD DEVIATION = SQRT(var(Y))=sqrt(6,16)=2.5

Please let me know if you need any clarification. I'm always happy to answer your questions.
