Writing

Description

1. The topic of the paper is perception and memory.

2. Look up 7-10 references relate to the topic. Cite each source after quote or paraphrase in parentheses (author's name, year). The citation follow APA style.

3. The paper is more like an introduction or literature review based on the references. Explain why the topic is important or interesting. Feel free to use "I".

4. The overall goal is to demonstrate the need for your research. This is called the "deficiency model"-- you are showing the studies that have been done. In the last paragraph, explain why your study is needed.

5. End the introduction by explaining the purpose of your study (research question) and hypothesis.

Background
The human brain is a highly complex organ that contains billions of neurons, specialized
types of cells that deal with processing and transfer of information (Brady, Shankweiler, &
Mann, 1983). Organized into a series of complex circuits, neuron cells communicate via
synapses or rather junctions that permit and allow transfer of chemical or electrical information
across neurons. Neurons are highly adapted to their functions of stimuli perception, processing
and transmission of data such that each part of the human body has dendrites extension which are
specialized projections of neurons (Brady, Shankweiler, & Mann, 1983). Using these sensory
neurons, the brain can perceive and convert external stimuli registered from the external
environment into electrical signals, a form which permits transportation and processing of
information by the brain neuron cells.
Despite many studies have been conducted to understand the complexity of the brain
processes, including perception and memory, there has been no consensus about the findings of
many of these studies. Concerning this, considerable gaps in our knowledge and understanding
of perception, memory and learning processes; the three key functions that our brain undertakes
still exist. Specifically, the interplay between perception, memory, and learning is still not well
understood, an issue that needs further research if we are to have better information on the
human brain and its many functions.
Perception and memory are closely interlinked, essentially meaning that one cannot study
perception, for instance, without ever delving into the memory process (Morenko, 2014). This
explains why perception and memory processes are often studied together. In this sense, when

exploring the learning process, it’s unavoidable to look at the interplay of perception and
memory in enhancing learning outcomes. Though perception is often interpreted as the ability of
the brain to perceive stimuli from the external environment and relaying the same to the brain for
interpretation, how a person responds to stimuli depends on whether the brain ever perceived the
information. Necessarily, this implies the interrelation between perception and the memory
process.
Perception Process
Sensation, a process by which the sensory receptors are triggered into action by the
presence of external stimuli, where the nervous system responds by sending electric impulses
into the brain. Though not part of the perception process plays a critical role in the ability of an
individual to organize the impulses into a form that can be un...
