Instructions:

For this Individual Reflection, imagine that you are applying for a position in the hypothetical United States-based company Walden Consulting Inc., (WCI). WCI’s mission is to improve teamwork at organizations worldwide. To accomplish this, WCI is interested in constructing a model team to “shop” to other organizations that want to increase their teamwork skills. This model team must be an exemplar of positive teamwork, successful collaboration, and be able to work with teams of all sizes, revenue, and experience levels. WCI is asking all interested persons to create a sample Team Charter as evidence of his or her ability to think through how a model team should effectively operate.

Of course, as a Walden student you have always been passionate about teamwork and teambuilding, and think that your experience, collaborative skills, and expertise on how teams operate would be a great asset for WCI’s model team. You have decided to apply for the position and need to develop a team charter.

To prepare for the Individual Reflection, first research the library and the internet for reputable sources on the content and format of team charters. I have provided 2 attached references, But you can add more.

Hint: There are many different ways to format team charters. The format of your team charter should be your original work to incorporate your unique vision of how a team should operate and interact. Your team charter should synthesize ideas from a variety of reputable sources you have found through your research. Simply copying a format you found online is not appropriate for this assignment.

At a minimum, incorporate the following in your team charter for the Individual Reflection:

  • the type of skills an effective team needs to demonstrate collaboration and teamwork;
  • the characteristics that enable effective collaboration and teamwork;
  • strategies you think are needed to ensure that a team can operate effectively;
  • strategies for managing disagreements at the point of conflict and managing conflict upon escalation;
  • contingency plans teams should make to mitigate potential risks to the team’s ability to function and achieve its goals

Hint: reflect on the challenges you have seen teams encounter that risk the team’s success or ability to function. Your contingency plan should address these potential challenges.

  • your personal strengths and weaknesses and how they might (or might not) functionally complement other members of the team

Hint: be sure to give honest and careful reflection of these based on your experiences and what you know about yourself and how you interact with others. This is an important piece of your charter and warrants additional consideration and attention.

Create a team charter that includes specific guidance for the operation of and interactions for the model team at WCI. Use references from the resources provided in the course to date, and—if applicable—examples from personal experience to support the content of the Team Charter.

TEAM CHARTER Introduction Teamwork leads to an increase in the efficiency and effectiveness in work. The weaknesses of some of the team members may not be effective in the overall result of the team because the strengths of the other members compensate them (Chasanidou, Elvesæter & Berre, 2016). Therefore, this work will discuss the possible application of teamwork in a company to ensure the effectiveness of the activities that it carries and the increased in the overall achievement of the company. Skills needed to demonstrate collaboration and teamwork Communication is one of the main skills that a person needs to possess to make a good part of the team. People should have abilities to communicate their ideas to others in a way that friendly but professional according to their respective occupations. They should have efficient abilities in both verbal and nonverbal modes of communication. Conflict management is the other core skill that one should have to ensure good teamwork and collaboration. There is always a need for the team members to mediate the problems in their group through settling disputes and ensuring the happiness of all the members (John & Michael, 2010). Other skills needed to build a strong team are reliability, respectfulness, and listening. Characteristics enabling effective collaboration and teamwork Firstly, for a team to grow strongly, its members should be able to give respect to one another. Each member should be able to view the team as a single unit that exists through the collective efforts of all the members. Therefore, there should be minimal applications of words such as "I" and instead replace them with others such as "we." Members of an effective team should take their roles responsively and seriously. The seriousness is revealed by the way the members support the purpose of the group, their focus on the objectives of the group, and fair contribution of their share among other ways. Also, they should be bound together by similar values (John & Michael, 2010). These values may include empathy, integrity, and honesty. Strategies needed to ensure that a team can operate effectively Team members can work effectively even without the supervision of the company leaders if they trust the judgment of their leaders. For instance, it is difficult to ensure that the managers are present at every point of production all the time. Therefore, one should use transparency to foster trust in the workers. One should also ensure that there is an established relationship between the leaders and the employees of the company (Patricia, 2017). After establishing the basis of the relationship between the workers and their leaders, the relationship among the workers is then established through the set of ground rules and other activities such as holding meetings. Managing disagreements The best way to manage disagreements among the teams or team members is by the use of means that does not ruin their relationships but instead strengthen them (Patricia, 2017). These means can be achieved through coming up with a common way of ending conflicts, enabling the team members with a way of making trade-offs, coaching them using the instances of conflict, introducing the necessity of joint escalation, enable the managers to settle the conflicts together with their counterparts, and solving the escalated conflicts transparently among others. Contingency plans Teams face various problems that hinder them from achieving their aim. Some of the main challenges that I have witnessed facing companies and other working teams are associated with how the team members are committed to their responsibilities and their relationships with one another. Such companies should make contingency plans regarding their main goal, ways of managing risks, finding the trigger of conflicts, evaluating periods, and making simple plans to help them make effective progress. Personal strengths and weaknesses I have personal traits that may influence any group of workers that I may join. Among others, I portray honesty, punctuality, devotion, hard work, and trustworthiness in all areas that I work. Therefore, with a serious team of workers, I can make a good part in achieving the objectives of my company. However, I may get into frequent conflicts with team members who are not able to uphold the expected standards of work. References Chasanidou, D., Elvesæter, B., & Berre, A. (2016).
