1 Basics of Report Writing 214 report has 6 separate parts Introduction, Background, 2 different Body sections, Conclusion and Recommendation. The Body will have 2 different sections relating to the specific focus you have chosen for your topic which becomes the type of report you will write. The different types of report are Cause/Effect, Problem/Solution, Compare/Contrast, and Advantage/Disadvantages and this focus should be clear in your title. It is also recommended to narrow your topic further to focus on one of the following:- Saudi Arabia, Neom, Internet of Things, Vision 2030 or the GCC. This will make it easier to identify a purpose for your report and make recommendations at the end. United states of America must be mentioned (best on a source). Requirements Final Report is minimum 1200 words and maximum 1800 words. Final Report needs to be put through the Plagiarism Checker There must be 6 uses of outside sources paraphrased in the report. Guide to the different parts of your report Introduction Aim- Rewrite your title in your own words. Define your terms- Provide a short definition of key words in your title. Purpose-Who you are making your recommendations to. 2 Scope (thesis statement)- Paraphrase what will be in the body of the report. *Do not begin answering the question in the Introduction* *You do not need to mention anything about methodology or data collection* *Limit your Introduction to the aim, definition, purpose and scope and write between 80-100 words* Background Provide facts relevant to your topic. Apply the question words to generate ideas… Example- Advantages and Disadvantages of Solar Power in Saudi Arabia What is a Solar Power Plant? (needs more detail than just a simple definition) How is Solar Power is converted to electricity Where the process happens in Saudi Arabia What is the future plan for Solar power in Saudi Arabia? Why is this future plan important? Who is responsible for this future plan? When is this expected to happen?(vision 2030). What is the expected outcome *Background need to be a separate section and should not be part of the Introduction* *Only Facts should appear in the Background. Do not start answering the question here* Narrow down the topic Try to find a topic that is connected in some way to Saudi Arabia. Make a title for your report Decide what will be the focus of your report- Cause/Effect, Compare/Contrast, Problem/Solution or Advantage and Disadvantages. 3 Advantages and Disadvantages of Solar Power in Saudi Arabia Make a basic outline Decide on some main headings that you will use as part of your report. Introduction (Aim, Definition, Purpose, Scope) Background ( What, How, Who, Where, When ) Body- Disadvantages – Cost, Lack of Technical knowledge, Dusty/Sandy Advantages- Future economic benefit, Environmentally friendly, Job creation Conclusion Recommendations (linked to your Purpose) Find Sources You need 6 sources to complete the report. 2 sources can be used in the Background Section of your report. Background can include one source of visual data 4 sources need to be used in the Body part of the report because it is these sources that will help you to answer the question (title of report). 1 of your sources needs to be from an Academic journal. Make sure that each source has a date and an author as you will need this information for citation and referencing. 4 Make a more detailed outline Add subheadings for the heading you already have. Change from a 2 step outline to a 3 step outline. Introduction (Aim, Definition, Purpose, Scope) Background ( What, How, Who, Where, When ) Body- Disadvantages – 1. Cost ( Infrastructure, technical skills training and man-power) 2. Lack of Technical knowledge (Training, New degrees for Universities) 3. Dusty/Sandy - (Saudi climate and effect of sand storms). Advantages1. Future economic benefit ( future plans for solar city and selling solar power) 2. Environmentally friendly ( move from non-renewable to renewable) 3. Job creation (create employ Conclusion Recommendations (Who will implement this and when will they do it) Map your sources to your outline You will need 6 sources for your report. 2 sources can be used in the Background and 4 must be used in the Body. You may use additional sources for the Recommendations (if needed). You should not use any sources in the Introduction or Conclusion. Map your sources to where you will use them in your report. Background ( What, How, Who, Where, When ) Source 1 and 2 Body- Disadvantages – 1. Cost ( Infrastructure, technical skills training/man-power) Source 3 5 2. Lack of Technical knowledge (Training, New degrees for Universities) 3. Dusty/Sandy - (Saudi climate and effect of sand storms).Source 4 Advantages1. Future economic benefit ( future plans for solar city and selling solar power) Source 5 2. Environmentally friendly ( move from non-renewable to renewable) 3. Job creation (create employment for Saudi graduates) Source 6 Conclusion Recommendations (Who will implement this and when will they do it) Citation (drafts and final report) You will need to show a variety of the 3 citation methods in both your drafts and your final report. There are 3 main citation methods According to Brown (2018)…. Brown (2018) states …………….. ……………………………………………………………………… (Brown 2018) Combine your drafts into the Body Your 4 drafts can be combined to form the basis of your Body section. You can edit and change these drafts before you submit the Final Report. Order of Writing Report It is recommended that you start by writing the Background Section and then combine your 4 drafts to write your Body Section. ETHANOL BIOFUEL

Introduction

Ethanol is a kind of alcohol obtained from starch or indirectly from paper waste. It the
main component in most alcoholic beverages produced as a result of fermentation of sugarcane
or a mixture of grains. In addition, it is fuel when mixed with gasoline. About ten years ago, the
government had placed emphasis on diminishing toxic fuel emissions. To curb this problem,
people came up with ethanol as a source of fuel and it is mostly used across continents. Even
though ethanol has overlying benefits, it also has some disadvantages as described in this report
Background
Biofuels are fuels used in transportation and are made from materials extracted from the
biomass. Ethanol is one of them is made by blending it with gasoline; a product obtained from
oil, and can as well be used on their own. The ethanol constituent is responsible for oxygenating
fuels thereby decreasing air pollution. It is a pure and colorless liquid, also miscible with water,
biodegradable and non-toxic. It is also referred to as grain alcohol or ethyl alcohol and can be
produced from sugar-based feedstock or starch. The United States is the main producer and
exporter of corn across the world. Therefore in the US, ethanol is produced from corn. While in
Brazil it produces ethanol from sugar cane because it’s the largest producer and exporter of
sugarcane across all continents. Since sugar and corn are agricultural products, there is a greater
extent of correlation between ethanol costs and the cost of sugar and corn. Ethanol basically
contains a smaller amount of energy per gallon than the gasoline; that is the reason why mixing it
with gasoline gives out desirable outcomes in terms of reducing pollution and efficiency of fuel
(Mosier et al, 2015).

In the US, renewable biofuel production is based on corn. The grain-based ethanol
contains marginal energy benefits and significant environmental effects, but it still remains as the
only existing ethanol. The next generation would be cellulosic ethanol, that’s where the
manufacturers are focusing towards in the coming yea...
