Think of a molecule with a chiral carbon. i.e. is one which has four different atom groups. For example. 2-amino-2-methyl ethanoic acid (H2NCH(CH3)COOH). Put it in front of a mirror, The original form and the mirror image are what is called enantiomers.
The compounds cannot be distinguished using your naked eye. But if you run a polarized beam of light upon them, one will deviate the beam to the left and the other to the right
