Do you think it is logical, at least in healthcare, to dictate a dress code policy of certain brands and/or colors? Do you think that the practice should give some kind of uniform allowance or do you think that it is entirely up to the staff member to abide by this policy at their own cost?

Thank you for the opportunity to help you with your question!

Since medicine became known and hospitals build, healthcare professionals have always wore a white lab coat over their normal attire. For a policy to dictate that these coats should be of a certain brand will be unethical, since it will be termed as advertisement.

Setting aside money to offer the said brands as uniform allowance will not be ethical as the cash can be used for other purposes in healthcare department. I the policy is pushed forward with then staff members should abide by it at their own cost, as they have the ability to not allow the policy to become law.

Please let me know if you need any clarification. I'm always happy to answer your questions.
