We can write it as

y = t^2 - 4t^-3

Now taking the derivative w.r.to t, we get

dy/dt = 2t^(2-1) - 4(-3)t^(- 3 - 1)

dy/dt = 2t + 12t^-4

We can also write it as

dy/dt = 2t + 12/t^4
