A block of mass 0.250 kg is placed on top of a light vertical spring of force constant 5000 N/m and pushed downward so that the spring is compressed by 0.100 m. After the block is released from rest it travels upward and then leaves the spring. To what maximum height above the point of release does it rise?

when the spring expands, it transfer its potential energy to the block .The block travels upward after leaving the spring to the height 'h'.

(1/2)kx^2=mgh

total spring energy=total potential energy (after rising max height 'h')

0.250x9.8xh=0.5x5000x10^(-2)=25

h=(25/.25)x(1/9.8)=10.2 metre
