As the world population grows and economic developments increase, the need for more
energy sources becomes apparent. The world needs more social amenities like schools, hospitals,
housing, and infrastructure whose development depends on energy. Where adequate
development energy lacks, societies will suffer poverty, diseases, and worse, fatalities. The
human society fathoms the depleting oil fields as such, they have been ready for alternative
sources of power such as; nuclear power (Hewitt & Collier, 2018). However, despite being used
for decades, nuclear power still elicits controversial debates about its safety, efficiency, and costeffectiveness.
Nuclear power is a crucial alternative source of energy as depicted by most developed
economies that have embraced its use. For instance, 6.3% of global energy is sourced from
nuclear power plants. Over 70% of electricity in France is sourced from nuclear power, 60% in
Belgium, 21% in the United Kingdom, 37% in Spain, 24% in Japan, 39% in Switzerland, and
42% in Sweden. Notably, 20% of America’s energy is sourced from nuclear power plants. This
is a clear indication that all developed economies have invested in nuclear power plants as an
alternative and back up energy sources (Choi & Chang, 2017). Nuclear power is a crucial energy
production fuel.
Though there are opposing standpoints regarding the use of nuclear power, the proposing
viewpoint affirms that nuclear power is very secure and reduces environmental pollution as
compared to coal (Hewitt & Collier, 2018). For instance, nuclear power plants do not cause air
pollution that later results in acid rain and ozone depletion as is the case with coal power plants.
Nuclear power plants release minor radiations that are not deemed dangerous to humans and the
environment. As a matter of fact, coal power plants emit more harmful radiations as compared to
nuclear power plants. The main concern about wastes from nuclear power plants can be resolved
through a technology referred to as reprocessing. Reprocessing divides waste plutonium and
uranium for use as fuel. Therefore, the society does not have to deal with the effects of
plutonium awaiting for its decay in 250,000 years because it is turned into fission products after

Tutor went the extra mile to help me with this essay. Citations were a bit shaky but I appreciated how well he handled APA styles and how ok he was to change them even though I didnt specify. Got a B+ which is believable and acceptable.
