Why were the South against slavery?

Why did they want slavery? Why didn't want to abolish slavery?

The south wanted slavery because they need workers but not to pay them and this enabled the south to make more revenue in order to buy more slave and pay taxes.The acquired slaves helped the south to grow their farms and plantations.

The south was against abolishing of slave trade because they argued that end to slave would have negative effect on the economy because they relied on slave to work on their farms.Also they argued that end to slave trade would cause widespread unemployment and chaos which would cause bloodshed and uprisings
