Introduction
Ever since reporters and publishers started bringing news to people, great strides and
changes have taken place in the style that news is reported while the expectations of readers have
also changed. It is the media’s responsibility to convey only the facts to the public. If media has
some interests in exaggerating certain issues or hiding certain issues, the public will never get the
exact dimensions of such issues. In other words, public may become forced to take wrong stands
on issues if they get inadequate information. This essay aims to analyze the style of reporting for
two renowned journalists Walter Cronkite and Christiane Amanpour. They both were good
reporters who were brave, honest, independent, compassionate, and caring who made the world a
better place.
Walter Cronkite
Walter Cronkite was an American reporter and a pioneer of television news programming
who later became known as the most trusted man in America. He decided to become a journalist
at the age of twelve. He hosted radio shows and always sought the truth. During the 20th century,
he reported on most of the historic events that happened during that time. He was also among the
person who launched the CBS Evening News in the year 1962 and served as its news anchor until
he retired in 1981 (Carlson, 2012). Generally, he facilitated in shaping the face of television news.
He had a composed calmness as well as an amazing ability to improvise verbally and this made
him perfect for covering unpredictable events as he did when reporting on the presidential
conventions of 1952, 1956, and 1960. He was as well known for his wide coverage of the United
States space program from project mercury to the moon landings and to the space shuttle (Carlson,
2012).

The hallmarks of Cronkite’s reporting style were honesty, neutrality and level-headedness. He was
very concerned with not becoming part of the story he was reporting. His reputation was based on
