Currently, most people have become more wired to their online social media platforms
especially Facebook (Eric et al., 2018). To avoid being more obsessed with it, some users
frequently try to cut themselves from these social media accounts by taking breaks. To
investigate if abstaining from online participation decreases anxiety and lessens personal
happiness due to social detachment, a research was conducted on active Facebook users who
were requested to take up to five days off their accounts, and others were to continue using it as
usual. A salivary cortisol test was done to determine the psychological state of the individuals,
and it was determined that about regular Facebook users, those who took online breaks were
characterized with lesser levels of cortisol and personal happiness....
