4.2 Findings
1. Why did you choose to study abroad?
A total of 10 students from three levels responded to the question of the reason to study
abroad. Majority of the respondents mentioned the wide range of benefits that help a learner to not
only gain sufficient knowledge and skills to build a career but also to improve their social lives.
One of the students in level two expressed enthusiasm for England’s education environment that
offers freedom and new learning ways. These respondents explained that studying in the country
allows them to expand their horizons, which cannot be easily achieved back at home. One of the
student in level one provided an interesting view which was different from other responses. The
student respondent that studying abroad would help him avoid Gaokao in China.
2. How many years have you been in the UK?
The students provided varied responses to this question. All the respondents on level one
mentioned that they had never been in the UK for more than two years, except for student four.
The students in level two, unlike those in level one, however, had a similar answer. They all
mentioned that they had been in the country for 3 years. Those in level three had varied answers.
Student one had been in the country for 3 years, student two for 4 years whereas student three for
3 years. The number of years mentioned by each respondent was closely related to the years of
study in the UK.
3. How is everything going in your union life?
Majority of the respondent provided a positive response to the question. Ideally, the
students mentioned that so far, their union life has been good and they look forward to continuing
learning in the country. Two students, however, mentioned their concerns studying on a foreign

country. Student one on level two mentioned that studying in the country had been challenging as
an introvert as due to difficulty in interacting with fellow students. Also, student one on level three
mentioned that while his progress had improved he initially had difficulty adjusting in a foreign
land as he felt homesick.
