Research and Critique an Experimental Study Prior to beginning work on this assignment, be sure to have read all the required resources for the week. Find an experimental research study on the topic chosen in Week One for your Final Research Proposal. You may choose to include an experimental study which was included in the literature review you used in the Week One assignment by searching the reference list for experimental research studies on the topic. However, it is also acceptable to find and include an experimental research study on the topic that is not included in that literature review. Identify the specific experimental research design used in the study. Summarize the main points of the experimental research study including information on the hypothesis, sampling strategy, research design, statistical analysis, results, and conclusion(s). Evaluate the published experimental research study focusing on and identifying the specific threats to validity that apply to the chosen study. Explain whether or not these threats were adequately addressed by the researchers. Describe how the researchers applied ethical principles in the research study. The Research and Critique an Experimental Study • • • Must be three to four double-spaced pages in length (not including title and reference pages) and formatted according to APA style as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center (Links to an external site.)Links to an external site.. Must include a separate title page with the following: o Title of paper o Student’s name o Course name and number o Instructor’s name o Date submitted Must use at least one peer-reviewed source in addition to those required for this week. ...

SLEEP DEPRIVATION EFFECTS ON ANXIETY AND DEPRESSION

2

Introduction
According to the World Health Organization, the report of the global burden of diseases indicated
that primary insomnia has contributed to almost four million years worldwide loss of healthy
productive life. Also, sleep deprivation has led to a cost of around sixty-five billion dollars through
health care and as well lost United States’ productivity. Consequently, more than “seventy million
individuals in the United States have issues with sleep deprivation thus an implication that the item
is one of the high health problems in the country” (Scott, 2017 prgh. 11). Primary insomnia has
forced about thirty-five per cent of individuals in the world to undergo diagnostic criteria.
Therefore, due to these facts and data, the research study had to be conducted to understand the
effects of sleep deprivation.
Hypothesis
The experimental research study hypothesizes that the acute sleep deprivation effects amplified
general distress, depression, and anxiety of the state relative to a circumstance of standard night
control of sleep.
Sampling strategy
Flier placement around the Northwest Arkansas community and University of Arkansas’
environment and announcements were crucial requirements for the establishment of recruitment.
According to the criteria of inclusion, only individuals of above 18 years participated. Also, in the
area of standards, three specific pieces of evidence remained imminent. Firstly, Axis I
psychopathology lifetime history whereby panic attack presumed nonclinical, and disorders
connected with sleep histories were essential. The other evidence stood as the incapability to
provide voluntary, informed, and written consent as well as the competency of limited mental to

participate (Babson et al., 2010). The required irrefutable evidence remained suicidality.
Moreover, referral information got given during the appropriate time to participants reporting the
three indications. Also, there was an exclusion of fourteen persons for prescription sleep
medications use and current insomnia while other fifty-four individuals remained axed for the
reason of missing at least one of the three essential pieces of evidence. Nevertheless, after meeting
the exclusion and inclusion criteria, one hundred and two persons got enrolled into the study
whereby forty-four were women, and the remaining were men. Only, eighty-eight of the available
participants were able to get through the required steps to appear in all the fundamental analyses.
Research design
For the absorbed participants who took part in the workroom, were summoned to join a session
known to be a baseline of their laboratory. Also, the section required the participants to write
informed consent in a written form. Moreover, for exclusionary criteria evaluation, administration
of the SCID and SDQ was imminent. Every participant was required to choose the day he/she
would comfortably go for an entire night without sleep absent interference with the day to day
activities as well as locally avail himself/herself to the laboratory for the second section that
morning after the process. The group assigned as the control ones were required to have their
healthy sleep while those in the experiment were supposed to stay an entire night without sleep.
Nevertheless, no person was briefed of his/her group of participation until the day of the first
section of the experiment. The purpose of not letting the people know their part in the test was to
avoid the change of behavior before attending the lab for the first time. Also, those under drugs
were instructed not to alter the routine. After the sections, another one hour section was included
for a brief structured interview to collect the required data...
