Let us call the first even integer x because we do not know what it is yet and so we have to label it as a variable. To get to the next even integer we add 2 to the first number. The second number is thus x+2. We add 2 to the second number to get the last even integer. The third number is x+4. Add all these up and set equal to 84.
x + x+2 + x+4 = 84
3x+6=84 I just combined like terms. Subtract 6 from both sides.
3x=78 Divide both sides by 3.
Add 2 to get the next number 28.
Add 2 to 28 to get the last number which is 30.
26,28,30 are the three consecutive even integers that add to 84.
