Jean Piaget was born on August 9, 1896, in Switzerland. Piaget then developed interest in
natural science at a tender age, which set him off to his first research work at the age of 11. In
this research, he wrote a short paper on the albino sparrow. Further, he continued with his studies
in natural sciences and earned a Ph.D. in Zoology from the University of Neuchatel in 1918. The
Swiss psychologist and epistemologist is widely known for his cognitive development theory. He
was married to Valentine Chatenay and the couple was blessed with three children. Due to
commitment to excel in his studies, he was ranked the most influential scientist in the 2002
survey and is a renowned author of books like Genetic Epistemology.
