Oct 27th, 2015

Thank you for the opportunity to help you with your question!

The American medical Association(AMA) released 2016 CPT code changes that will take effect on 1st january 2016.

High-dose-rate(HDR) brachytherapy code set was revised to differentiate between radionuclide skin surface, interstitial and intracavitary brachytherapy. Two new codes were introduced for reporting HDR radionuclide skin surface brachytherapy.

-77767:Remote afterloading high dose rate radionuclide skin surface brancytherapy, include basic dosemetry when performed lesion diameter upto 2.0 cm or 1 channel and 77768 when lession diameter over 2.0cm and 2 or more channels or multiple lesions.

CPT codes 77785-77787 were replaced with 77770,77771 and 77772.

Please let me know if you need any clarification. I'm always happy to answer your questions.

Hi.

This is continuation to the above :

CPT codes 77785 – 77787 were deleted and replaced with 77770, 77771, and 77772. These codes should be used to report HDR brachytherapy for tumors other than skin and are based on the number of channels used to treat the patient.

77770: Remote afterloading high dose rate radionuclide interstitial or intracavitary brachytherapy, includes basic dosimetry, when performed; 1 channel,

77771: Remote afterloading high dose radionuclide rate interstitial or intracavitary brachytherapy, includes basic dosimetry, when performed; 2 to 12 channels

77772: Remote afterloading high dose rate radionuclide interstitial or intracavitary brachytherapy, includes basic dosimetry, when performed; over 12 channels

Therefore the new codes are five.

NB

The new codes include the work associated with basic dosimetry calculation when performed; CPT code 77300 cannot be reported separately. These codes also cannot be reported with electronic brachytherapy codes 0394T or 0395T. To report non-brachytherapy superficial (up to 200 kV) radiation treatment delivery, use CPT code 77401 (Radiation treatment delivery, superficial and/or ortho voltage, per day).

Kind ragards and hope the additional information was helpful too. Always feel free to aska dnI will be glad when we share this knoldge.Thank you

Create an educational tool about the proposed CPT changes- purpose of the tool is to  provide an overview of the upcoming changes. If needed, the tool should be applicable to educate staff about the changes.

would you be able to create a document on codes that are going to be changed and revised?  For the changes and what the changes are and an overview of what is different in detail. Find something on the  changes and the changes revised codes. Put something together to educate someone on the changes
