1. Discuss the similarities and differences of the three generations of anti-psychotic
medications.
Anti-psychotic medications exist in these three generations, respectively:
typical antipsychotics also known as neuroleptics, atypical antipsychotics composed
of serotonin-Dopamine antagonists and Aripiprazole, commonly known as
Dopamine Partial Agonists. The similarities between the three generations of antipsychotic medications include the fact that they are all used to treat bipolar disorder
and schizophrenia. They block receptors to manage psychosis.
The differences of the three generations are that each subsequent generation
is an improvement of the former. For instance, the second generation was developed
to combat the side effects of the first generation drug, Clozapine, neurologically.
