Phospholipids by definition have a phosphate functional group attached to the opposite side of the two fatty acids. The side containing the phosphate group turns outward on the membrane forming a phospholipid bilayer. This lipid bilayer inhabits proteins, ions and important molecules including water

 phosphate is hydrophilic whereas the fatty acids are hydrophobic

The type of fatty acid presented in a neural fat are

  • monoglyceride
  • diglyceride
  • triglyceride
These fatty acids  relate to this molecules properties as they make up the fats and oils found in plants and animals
