Introduction
Companies that are making significant transitions for growth and development must
establish effective ways of managing organizational change. Rissanen (2016) holds that
organizational change is essential since it helps businesses to stay competitive in the market.
Generally, change initiatives mainly arise based on the issues established in an organization that
mostly create a performance gap. As seen in the case study, Ben and Jerry’s Homemade Inc. is
an ice cream producing company which has been quite successful over the years. Several factors
like quality products, effective marketing strategy and the promotion of customer satisfaction
have helped the firm to attract many customers. However, from an internal analysis of the
company’s operations, it is evident that the company has significant weaknesses in the
management practices. Ben & Jerry’s Homemade Company has the mandate of ensuring that the
established problems in the management team are solved to boost organizational development in
the company.
Summary of the Present Organizational Situation
Apparently, the company has very focused managers who are committed to seeing that
the business is a success. The key managers, Ben and Jerry, are viewed as role models based on
how they are committed to improving their relations with employees and customers
internationally, nationally, and locally. The two founders also have caring values, and this is
another aspect that makes them attract potential employees from other organizations. However,
as much as the leaders have their values, they also have significant issues that tend to affect the
overall organizational performance. The major problem is the lack of teamwork among the
employees and the leaders. For instance, since the company has been performing well in the

market, the demand for their products has been increasing. Unfortunately, there has been a lack
of proper communication between the salesperson and the marketing director. From a broader
perspective, individuals in the sales and marketing department must work cohesively as a team
since they play a significant role in driving the sales of an organization (Rissanen, 2016).
However, when such coordination is absent, then, little can be achieved.
The other issue is that the organization lacks clear structures that define how the
operations in the organization should be managed. For instance, Ben and Jerry have a self-styled
kind of leadership whereby they believe that the atmosphere in the organization should be fun,
funk and full of love. However, this has affected the internal operations in the organization
whereby the functions are slow-paced, and the aspirations of the leaders fail to match. In this
case, the founders, Ben and Jerry have differing perspectives with Fred Chico, the general
manager in the organization. The leader is conservative when compared with the founders who
are outgoing and free-spirited. Therefore, it becomes challenging for such cent...
