LIBERTY UNIVERSITY SCHOOL OF DIVINITY Journal Article Critique of Maryanne Cline Horowitz “The Image of God in Man: Is Woman Included? To further advance the advice given on this topic the author of who I chose also wanted to bring to light the subject of “is woman included”? The author has presented a deep introduction into what the Bible says about this topic and will prove the arguments of other people as being false or not aligning with what the word of God says. Brief Summary Ms. Horowitz brings to light the question of how is man made in the image of God. She refers much to the first book of the Bible Genesis where It discusses the introduction of man “Adam” into the world. From Adam was created Eve, this meaning that both man and woman were created in the image of God. The author did create her own opinions, however, did express her acceptance into listening and better understanding how other people came to the conclusions they have. The author compared many other books and articles to emphasize the importance that in Gods eyes both man and woman are and were created equal. On page 177 of this articles we see where at one-point woman were believed to have not been created in the image of God. 1 The author points out that in the eleventh and twelfth centuries we see where the misinterpretation from the writings of Paul led to the disbelief that woman were indeed made in the image of God. The author continues to prove valid points of why man was made and is made Maryanne Cline Horowitz “The Image of God in Man: Is Woman Included? Cambridge University Press on behalf of the Harvard Divinity School http://www.jstor.org/stable/1509720 25-11-2016 1 3 in the image of God. God created the heavens and the earth, God also created everything in those six days so therefore the image of man was created by God and in God. The author did prove valid points of man being created in the image of God, however, the author also presented facts of what has happened in our time that has dimmed the belief and why man was made in the image of God. Our world has become darker and therefor mor people are joining the revolution of the God is dead theory. Critical Interaction I do agree that the author makes a strong understanding of the topic at point and she argues her point well. The author of this article didn’t just porve her point by showing us her own opinion but rather she was able to dig deep into the word of God and bring forth and shine a light on that which was dark. The theological issues at risk here are if people do not believe that man was made in the image of God then they are actually dictating their belief in God at all. If the bible is the inherent word of God and they believe that then there should be no question as to whether or not man or woman was made in the image of God. The author was tired of being asked how, why, when and what the reason was for making man in the image of God, so she took matters into her own hand to ensure the people that God did indeed create them in His image. She used a thorough research of the Bible and many verses to prove a valid point. She also spoke to other people and viewed the respected their belief to better understand where they were coming from. The main goal of the author was to prove that man was made in the image of God. She again took it further to prove the word man did not only mean a man but all of humanity and mankind. I do agree with the outcome of the research and do believe there is nothing I would 4 change about the format and layout of the article. I thought and believed it to be a complete overview of what every believer needs to read and understand to better grasp what God is telling us. Conclusion The overall topic of this paper was proven true and backed by complete research that stayed true to what the Bible says. The author was able to make their point valid and ensure the reader that man was indeed made in the image of God. I would not change anything about how the author wrote and felt like if I had any questions she answered them and would have also been able to answer any other questions from anyone else. 5 Bibliography GotQuestions.org.
