Triangle ABE and Triangle DCF are congruent. This means that all corresponding side lengths are congruent (equal in length). Therefore AE is equivalent to DF because they are corresponding sides on these congruent triangles. The length of DF is DE+EF which is 8+2=10.

So

10=DE=AE

AE=10
