Integers are the whole numbers be it negative whole numbers, positive whole numbers and zero For Example, -3, 2, 0, 2235 are integers

Rational number - Derived from the word ratio, is any number that can be written as ratio of two integers.

To understand rational numbers better I will put it this way, a number is rational if we can write it as a fraction where the numerator and denominator are both integers

take for example 4/5, -8, and 1.75(7/4)

how would i create a math word problem related to this?

Problem formulation is more or less impossible for me, but let me do my research and get back to you

A math problem relating to integers is as follows

Example:

A hole is drilled in the ground to the depth of 10 feet and a ball is dropped into it.

What number would you use to represent the position of the ball compared to ground level? Does this number belong to the set of whole numbers? Does it belong to the set of integers?

Solution

Since integers are whole numbers and their negative the number representing the ball's position is -10

An example of a word problem that can be formulated using rational numbers

Example:

Tom had pieces of rope. Rope 1 was 5 ½ fee long. Rope 2 was 74 inches long. Rope 3 was 1 ½ yards long. What is the total length of rope?)
