x + y = 126

and

100%x + 10%y = 20%(126)

(1)x + (0.1)y = (0.2)(126)

x + 0.1y = 25.2

Now substitute: y = 126 - x into the equation

x + (0.1)(126 - x) = 25.2

x + 12.6 - 0.1x = 25.2

0.9x = 12.6

x = 12.6/0.9 = 14 liters of pure acid

y = 126 - 14 = 112 liters of 10% acid
